thanks Joe :)
I thought your idea was really interesting too!! Specially the way you use the whole riddle concept where people have to solve things - its creative because people have to work to find the answer and so continue in the game. Really heightens the interactivity!

For a class that has interactive in its title, I didn’t really get to know anyone in the unit. Anyways, good luck to everyone.

I thought the presentations by Kym & Tegan were both great.

Kym: As a fan of the ‘choose you own adventure’ series, it was refreshing to see the idea reinvented and adapted to a contemporary medium. I agree that, as Edwin pointed out, it would be a really fun method for the younger generations to experience creative writing.

Tegan: I really appreciated the videos you showed, as I don’t consider writing to be one of my stronger points it’s always a bonus when I get introduced to well written productions. The idea for some reason reminded me of the ‘Lost’ series, probably because when they showed flash forwards in the later episodes, there could have been several ways in which the character could reach that conclusion.

Hey Jacinta, thanks for the positive feedback on my presentation, I’m glad you enjoyed it. The concept of viral marketing is something that I only just discovered and I have found it quite interesting just how far in advance movies are being marketed these days. Australia seems to be lagging a bit in regards to taking advantage of newer technologies and as mentioned, we do have a much smaller population however I don’t mind if we start the trend.

I've recently read an article by Newman, 2002, and he suggested that videogames are mostly non-ergodic.These "non-ergodic" sections are integral parts of the game. Newman mentioned that videogames might give the players some sense of progression through a world and how the levels fit together. In some videogames, there could be a breaks between levels to inform the players of their performance to allow the players to gauge their progress or bask in their glory or so on. Or, some videogames might present cut-scenes that advance the game's framing narrative. However, Newman commented that regardless of their specific function or the reasons of these elements, videogames are not uniformly ergodic.

"Videogames present highly structured and, importantly, highly segmented experiences. Play sequences, from where the idea of the interactivity or ergodicity of videogames derives, are framed and punctuated by movie sequences, map screens, score or lap-time feedback screens and so on." (Newman 2002).

I think this article sort of changed my view on videogames as previously i've always thought videogames belong to ergodic media as it contains some sort of such elements. However, i guess i have a new perception now. For further reading of Newman's article, please go to this link:

I just wanna make a comment on Joe's presentation.

I think he has done really a great job with that fabulous idea.

I particularly like the idea that originated from those ancient pictures that suggest mysteries or tasks to be solved.

Having a great party for those who made it till the end of the game is also an interesting idea to promote interactivity in the internet.

I love the video that Joe has shown in class, the one that shows the crazy crowd who participated the game for the Batman movies. I have never seen such a scene like this before and it had certainly widen my horizon. The game was such a huge success to make the whole America goes crazy about it.

Overall, i like the presentation and the idea!

Hey Jacinta, well done in your talk to! I absolutely love your idea. To allow people to experience and 'be' a part of another culture...genius!!! Our ideas are quite similar but to have an interactive game I think that networking, online liaising and customisable avatars are all crucial features. The story and characters are usually the only thing that makes these interactive games differ from one another.

If you or anyone else is interested the film that I showed a clip from was called "Caprica" and was released earlier this year. You can probably find it online or if you want it on dvd try JB Hi-Fi :o)

Hey Tamiah! Congratulations on the fabulous idea and good presentation.

From your presentation i found out that our ideas are quite similar in some senses.

Like allowing the players to customize their looks, have interactivity in the game through wordings and chattings, etc.

I believe this is what interactive screen is all about. People like to take control these days, yet they cant sometimes. In real life, many people want to be a certain people but they just cant be one. So in the games, we let them to have the chance to experience being "THAT" character that they want to be.

Our concepts are quite similar. and thanks for introducing the film and the game "Mysts". I have not heard about it before, might need to do some research about it.

Great performance overall. Well done!

I would like to comment on the second presenter of week 11, not sure if the name is Rowan, i assume so.

Great ideas on the presentation and development of interactive film. It is a great idea to let audiences choose the next development that they want to see. This is about interactivity i suppose. Voting will definitely be the fairest way to have engagement with audiences to fulfill their wants and needs.

And like what Edwin has commented, after the whole series have been done, it will be good to produce everything, every options or endings that have not been produced (due to low votings from the audiences), combine them and make them into the form of DVD or other for distribution. Then we will have a collection of series with different story lines and endings.

Fantastic idea. I like that very much. Well done!
